Terms of Service

A clear agreement for recording here.

These Terms explain how you may use Orec, what you own, what we provide, and the rules that keep things fair and safe.

Use Orec to record audio

You get a browser-based recorder with local storage, editing tools, and export. No signup required.

Your recordings belong to you

You keep full ownership of everything you record. We only process audio to provide the service.

Sharing is always your choice

Recordings are private and local by default. Cloud sync and sharing are opt-in features.

Agreement

These Terms of Service are an agreement between you and Orec. By accessing the website or using the recorder, you agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy. Creating an account is not required to use the basic recorder, but some features (cloud sync, sharing) may require one.

If you use Orec on behalf of a company, studio, or other organization, you confirm that you have authority to bind that organization to these Terms.

Accounts

An account is optional. If you create one, you are responsible for it and the activity that happens through it. Keep your login credentials secure and use accurate information when signing up.

  • Provide accurate account information and keep it updated.
  • Protect your login credentials and tell us if you suspect unauthorized access.
  • Use Orec only if you are legally allowed to accept these Terms.
  • Do not share an account in a way that bypasses usage limits or security controls.

Using the service

Orec gives you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use the service for personal, creative, professional, or educational audio recording, subject to these Terms.

  • Orec may change as we add, remove, or improve features.
  • We may set reasonable limits on storage, uploads, or recording duration.
  • We may suspend access to protect the service, comply with law, or respond to harmful use.
  • Beta or preview features may change quickly and may not be available forever.

Your content

You keep full ownership of every recording you make with Orec. This includes the audio itself, any edits, and the metadata you add.

Audio recordings

All audio files you record, including raw takes, edited versions, and exported files.

Metadata

Titles, notes, labels, timestamps, and any other information you attach to your recordings.

Shared content

Recordings you choose to upload for cloud sync or share via link. This is always opt-in.

If you use cloud sync or sharing, you give Orec permission to host, store, process, and transmit your content only as needed to operate those features. You are responsible for making sure you have the rights needed for any content you record or upload.

Acceptable use

Use Orec in a way that respects other people, the service, and the law. You agree not to:

  • Breaking laws, violating intellectual property rights, or misusing someone else's private information.
  • Uploading malware, scraping the service, probing security, or disrupting infrastructure.
  • Reverse engineering, reselling, sublicensing, or copying Orec outside what these Terms allow.
  • Using the service to harass, threaten, exploit, impersonate, or harm another person.
  • Trying to bypass usage limits, access controls, or rate limits.
  • Recording or sharing content you do not have the right to capture or distribute.

Orec intellectual property

Orec owns the service, software, design, brand assets, interface, and documentation. These Terms do not transfer our intellectual property to you.

If you send feedback, ideas, or suggestions, you allow us to use them without restriction or compensation. We appreciate feedback, but please do not send anything you consider confidential unless we have a separate written agreement.

Suspension and termination

You may stop using Orec at any time. If you have an account, you may delete it or contact support for help.

We may suspend or terminate access if you violate these Terms, create risk for other users or the service, or if we are required to do so by law. Local recordings stored in your browser are not affected by account termination. After termination, some sections of these Terms still apply, including ownership, disclaimers, liability limits, and dispute provisions.

Disclaimers

Orec is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. We do not promise that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that every recording will be preserved without loss.

Browser-based recording depends on your device hardware, browser capabilities, and available storage. You are responsible for verifying that recordings saved correctly and for keeping backups of important audio.

Liability limits

To the maximum extent allowed by law, Orec will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data, lost recordings, or service interruption.

To the maximum extent allowed by law, our total liability for any claim related to the service is limited to the amount you paid Orec in the twelve months before the claim, or one hundred dollars if you did not pay us.

General terms

These Terms, together with policies referenced here, are the entire agreement between you and Orec for the service. If a part of these Terms is unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver.

We may update these Terms as the product changes. If changes are material, we will take reasonable steps to notify you. Continuing to use Orec after an update means you accept the updated Terms.
