Frequently asked questions
How does the audio censor work?
The tool uses Whisper, an AI speech recognition model, to transcribe your audio with precise word-level timestamps. You select which words to bleep (or let it auto-detect profanity), and the tool replaces those exact time ranges with a 1kHz bleep tone.
Does my audio get uploaded to a server?
No. The AI model downloads once and runs entirely in your browser. Your audio never leaves your device. No server processes it.
What is the difference between Censor and Redact mode?
Censor mode auto-detects common profanity and marks it for bleeping. Redact mode starts with nothing marked and lets you click specific words (names, addresses, sensitive info) to redact manually.
How accurate is the transcription?
The tool uses Whisper tiny, which is accurate for clear English speech. Heavy accents, background noise, or overlapping speakers may reduce accuracy. The transcript is editable so you can correct any mistakes.
Is the one-time setup download large?
The AI model is about 40MB. It downloads once and caches on your device. Future uses load instantly from the cache.
